A weekend for Gran Canaria by Parkhero

If you want to discover Gran Canaria but don’t want to take leave, then why not go for the weekend? With plenty to do you will not be disappointed and the island offers the ideal combination of attractions for a short break.

Prepare yourself for the best experiences and stunning landscapes on this unique island. Wake to sensational views, stroll along beautiful beaches, get your adrenaline pumping with some water sports, explore the delicious culinary culture and relax in one of the many excellent hotels! Make the most of your trip and hire a car. This will give you the chance to explore all that the island has to offer from mountain treks to hidden beach coves.

For this weekend, we are going to organize a mountain trip, combined with a nice walk around the city of Telde. For the night of Friday, we recommend that you spend the night in the Rural House El Palmito or in the Rural House Finca Mirador Bandama, these two unique properties are to about 20 minutes of the airport direction to the north. They both offer the great locations from which to discover Gran Canaria. You can explore the island’s capital Las Palmas and the many wonderful bars and restaurants serving local and international cuisine.

Once you are checked in, head to the mountains. The island has a hugely varied landscape with black lava rocks and mountains, pine forests and palm groves. There are many hiking routes to choose from with varied lengths and difficulties. The Agaete is a great short route at 1.6 km and takes about 90 minutes. You will enjoy views of dramatic landscapes shaped over thousands of years in the north west of the island.

You can spend your Saturday appreciating the nature of the island further with a cycle trip. The island has excellent cycling infrastructure and numerous routes for you to explore. If you are looking for a challenge, then why not scale Europe’s highest peak? The Pico de Las Nieves is 1949 metres above sea level and presents some difficult gradients, but the sense of achievement and the views make it all worth it! As a reward you can head to the Bodegas Bentayga, Spain’s second highest grapevines, and try a tipple of the local wine. Or you can head to one of the island’s white sand beaches for a well-deserved rest.

On Sunday why not try an adrenaline pumping adventure and go canyoning . With Climbo you can enjoy a half day exploring the beautiful ravines of the island from 9 am until approximately 13:30 pm. Groups are small (up to 8 people) and you don’t need to worry if you are a beginner as instructors cater to all difficulty levels. You will descend the ravines on ropes and get to see dramatic lava rockfaces, waterfalls and wildlife. You can climb, jump and swim and make some fantastic memories!

So there you have it, an action packed and memorable weekend in Gran Canaria! Don’t be too sad though the island is ready and waiting to welcome you back with open arms.

And remember, if you are going to park at an airport in the UK, Parkhero offers you the opportunity to save money on this wonderful trip by comparing airport parking services. Find the best deal and make the most of your trip!
